Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has so far frozen assets worth $74.524 million belonging to drug barons, who acquired assets through drug proceeds. In a written reply, Ministry of Narcotics Control informed the National Assembly here on Wednesday, according to "Control of Narcotics Substance Act 1997" acquisition of assets through drug proceeds is a crime.
ANF traces, freezes, forfeits and auctions all such assets of the drug traffickers. The accused can be awarded 5-14 years imprisonment besides forfeiture of their assets. So far assets worth $74.524 million have been frozen.
The ANF has taken several enforcement measures for control of narcotics in the country. Pakistan is contributing significantly in international counter narcotics efforts and achieved outstanding interdiction results over the last few years. Pakistan had made record seizures of heroin and morphine, unprecedented in the history of Pakistan.
In addition to the opiates substantial quality of hashish produced in Afghanistan is also entering Pakistan. The seizures of Afghan hashish remained around 100 MT for the last three to four years. During last 5 years Pakistan remained the second highest in the world on the podium of hashish seizures. Our hashish seizures and international standing is highlighted below:-
The ANF has already established 26 police stations, whereas 8 new police stations have been contemplated one each at Abbottabad, Mardan/Nowshera, Mirpur, Mianwali, Rahim Yar Khan, Lora Lai, Pasni and Hub.
Since a major portion of drugs is trafficked though Balochistan, therefore, Aviation Assets have been deployed in the area to ensure timely response. A sector HQ at Panjgoor and two police stations at Panjgoor and Gwadar have been established, which have produced excellent results.
Three IONSCAN Machines (Itemizers) have been installed at Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi airports to detect drugs. A total of five Canine units, one for each Regional Directorate have been established. In order to beef up the strength of these units, ANF has recently, procured five trained dogs from China.
