Jakarta shares soar

Indonesian shares ended 1.97 percent higher on Thursday, with firming global commodity prices pushing up second-line resource stocks, dealers said. The Jakarta Composite Index rose 31.42 points to 1,625.08. "The volume is very healthy, showing that the market rally could be sustained," a trader told Dow Jones Newswires.
Volume reached 19.3 billion shares worth 6.1 trillion rupiah (570 million dollars). Bakrie & Brothers jumped 36 percent to 68 rupiah on expectation it can soon complete its debt restructuring. Bakrie Telecom jumped 24 percent to 92 rupiah, while Bakrie Sumatera Plantations gained 3.6 percent to 425. CPO producer Astra Agro advanced 7.6 percent to 15,200, while tin miner Timah climbed 4.6 percent to 1,380. The rupiah closed at 10,750 to the dollar, the highest level since October 30, compared to 10,915 at the last close.
