Some early sown rice nurseries have been found in districts Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Okara, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar and Jhang, says a spokesman of the Directorate of Agricultural Information Punjab here on Tuesday.
It said that this has been reported in a report issued by the Director General Pest Warning, Punjab and the agriculture department has advised the farmers that early sown rice nurseries should be uprooted and destroyed immediately. It claimed that these would act as reservoirs for the multiplication of insect pests especially Rice Stem Borers and would serve as bridge for shifting this pest to normal season rice crop.
