No sharp fluctuations were seen in the rupee-dollar official parity rate on the currency market on Wednesday, dealers said. The rupee managed to move in a narrow band on the interbank, depicting one paisa gain versus dollar for buying at 80.59 and it also appreciated by two paisa for selling at 80.61 in process of trading, they said.
The feature of the day was no big difference was witnessed in official and open market rate, they said. On the interbank market the rupee continued its fall shedding five paisa in relation to the dollar for buying at 80.60 and it also lost 3 paisa for selling at 80.63, they said.
In the third Asian trading yen rose across the board on Wednesday as a rebound in the euro and commodity currencies faded, with the market on watch for clues about the health of the banking system as a key to longer-term direction. The currency market is highly volatile at the moment, reversing steep moves from one day to the next, and euro gained on Tuesday as an improvement in German investor confidence lifted stock markets and helped commodity currencies higher.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee moved down with five paisa fall against dollar for buying and selling at 80.60 and at 80.70, dealers said. The rupee shed its gains versus euro for buying and selling at Rs 103.70 and Rs 104.70, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee could not maintain rising trend and marginally declined by 20-paisa against the greenback in the open currency market on Wednesday. The dollar witnessed increase in its demand that kept the rupee under pressure. At the end of trading, the dollar closed higher at Rs 80.60 and Rs 80.80 against the overnight closing of Rs 80.40 and Rs 80.60 on buying and selling sides, respectively. Similarly, the rupee remained under pressure and slide down against the British pound. The pound following rising demand, moved up and closed at Rs 117.00 and 118.10 as compared to Tuesday closing of Rs 116.50 and Rs 117.60, respectively, the moneychangers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Wednesday. The dollar opened at Rs 80.40 (buying) and Rs 80.50 (selling) against same last rate. It did not witness further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 80.40 (buying) and Rs 80.50 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 116 (buying) and Rs 117 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 116 (buying) and Rs 117 (selling).
