NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani on Wednesday reiterated commitment to the enforcement of Sharia Nizam-e-Adal Regulations. However, he expressed his deep anguish on the criminal activities of kidnappings, looting and carjackings in Swat and its adjoining districts, said a statement issued here from Governor's House on Wednesday.
The Governor also warned of dealing with these elements with an iron hand, which are thwarting the implementation of Sharia Nizam-e-Adal by resorting to violent and criminal activities and preventing the return of peace and order to the area. The Governor stated the government of NWFP had initiated the promulgation and implementation of Sharia Nizam-e-Adal in the area in response to the aspirations of the general public of Malakand Division including districts of Dir, Chitral, Buner, Swat, Malakand, Shangla and Kohistan, and at the cost of lives and properties.
"Now when rapid progress is being achieved in this respect, some violent and criminal elements in Swat have started resorting to widespread kidnapping, looting, carjacking and harassment and intimidation of peace loving Muslims of Malakand Division", added the statement the activities was sabotaging the implementation of Sharia Nizam-e-Adal.
Governor Ghani said that the government had responded to the popular aspirations of the general populace and therefore was determined to go ahead with implementation of Sharia Nizam-e-Adal.
The government, he added had been practising extreme restraint in the intense provocation by the criminal elements so that the implementation of Sharia Nizam-e-Adal may go ahead with success. "But it seems that the policy of restraint has been mistaken for weakness by these criminal elements", the Governor said.
The Governor made an impassioned appeal to Maulana Sufi Mohammad, chief of the banned Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariah Mohammadi (TNSM) and signatory to the peace agreement reached out between the provincial government and the former to make last ditch effort and take immediate measures of these criminal.
"These elements are defaming Islam and the image of Muslims in the eyes of the entire world", he remarked. The Governor appealed to the people of Swat and adjoining areas to come out in support of Sharia Nizam-e-Adal and expel such criminal elements from their villages and towns. He assured that the government will protect the Sharia Nizam-e-Adal and will honour the aspirations of the people of the area at every cost.
