Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will attend a two-day symposium on 47th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Turkey on April 24-25 in Ankara and Istanbul and sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral co-operation.
A statement issued by the Supreme Court on Wednesday said that the CJ will sign MoU on bilateral co-operation between the constitutional court and the Supreme Court of Pakistan with the consent of the government of Pakistan.
Justice Javed Iqbal, the senior most judge after the CJ will function as acting Chief Justice. An oath taking ceremony will take place in the Supreme Court and Justice Sardar Raza would administer the oath. The Constitutional Court of Turkey has also signed MoU on bilateral co-operation with Supreme Court/Constitutional Court of number of friendly countries.
The purpose behind the signing of MoU is to launch bilateral co-operation programmes relating to working fields, to share knowledge and experiences and to strengthen institutional capacities. The MoU will strengthen mutual co-operation with a view to promote friendly relations, comparative law research, training activities, common training programmes, joint seminars and exchange of knowledge of experience.
The MoU between the judiciary of the two countries is a step to further strengthen the co-operation in the judicial field. In addition, the proposal of MoU by the Turkish government has demonstrated that it wants to expend the relations from the political and economic fields to the legal and judicial field.
