Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmad on Thursday moved an adjournment motion in the Upper House of the Parliament regarding ruining Pakistan Air Force's $1.2 billion Saab Surveillance deal for possible kickbacks. He has submitted an adjournment motion and demanded the Upper House to discuss the important issue of national interest by suspending the routine business of the house.
According to a news reports despite PAF's opposition, Musharraf put pressure on the air force to modify the contract to the extent that the number of systems to be purchased from Sweden was reduced from six to four to include two Chinese systems.
The $1.2 billion contract was originally meant to acquire six surveillance systems and one Saab 2000 aircraft as VIP version from the Swedish company. The motion was submitted by Professor Khurshid and others. The senators demanded that it was a matter of national interest and therefore should be discussed IN the House immediately.
