Conference on IPO today

Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan (IPO-Pakistan) is organising one day workshop cum conference here today (April 26) to mark World Intellectual Property day. "The conference will specifically focus on the menace of counterfeiting and violations of international property rights in Pakistan", official sources told APP here on Saturday.
The interlocutors from public and private sectors have been invited to exchange views and share expertise. They said that Pakistan is one of those countries where issues of piracy, counterfeiting and violations of intellectual property rights are harming the national economy. Despite growing realisation of these issues at the government level, the situation over the past few years has aggravated, they added.
They further added that it is the right time that the private and public sectors come closer to share their opinion and expertise to devise means required to handling these economic problems. They said in a world where economic relations are now increasingly playing a more important role in defining bilateral relations along with the global positioning of the nations, the Government of Pakistan, with the complete support and assistance from the private sector, is working to curb these menaces.
"Neither of the stakeholders can check or curb these curses single-handedly and inevitably requires the active aid from the other", they remarked. Most importantly, they said, this will be an annual event where the developments from the previous year at various levels eg legislative bills, administrative actions, support from the private sector etc will be analysed and discussed.
This activity will also act as an interactive platform between the government and the private sector, they remarked. IPO-Pakistan is committed to provide best IP services to its clients and enforce IP rights with support of all designated enforcement agencies.
Elimination of piracy, counterfeiting and violation of IPRs is the right way towards industrial growth especially in manufacturing sector and sustainable economic developments. It is the right time that both the public and private sectors should come closer to share their opinion and expertise to devise means required to handling these economic problems about IPRs.
Syed Khalid Mehmood Bukhari, Director General Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan said that in a world where economic relations are now increasingly playing a more important role in defining the bilateral relations along with the global positioning of the nations.
He added that this national conference is primarily aimed at bringing together the convictions, expertise and views in an effort to muster up the strength required to fight against these socio-economic crimes, which is not only hindering the national growth, but paint a bad image of the nation and also undercut the consumer rights at every level. He said that, the Government, with the complete support from the private sector, must come out stronger against these menaces.
On World IP Day 2009, the World Intellectual Property Organisation highlights the contribution of a balanced intellectual property system to stimulating the creation, diffusion and application of clean technologies; to promoting green design, aimed at creating products that are eco-friendly from conception to disposal; to green branding, helping consumers make informed choices and giving companies a competitive edge.
