A local Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader was killed while a driver of armed forces found injured in jurisdiction of Brigade police limits in wee hours on Monday morning, police said.
Talking to Business Recorder, SHO Brigade police station Aslam Joya said that the body of 40-year-old Zafarul Haq, who was Councillor of UC-9, Jamshaid Town, was found with an injured driver of armed forces Abdul Rasheed son of Shafique Ahmed in the compound wall of Thanvi Masjid.
He said that when people of the area found him dead, they informed police and without wasting time police reached the spot and shifted the dead body to Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy while the injured Abdul Rasheed was shifted to Al-Shifa Hospital for treatment.
He termed councillor's killing a murder attempt, and refused possibilities that he was shot dead by armed dacoit. He said that from further investigation it was revealed he was killed over old enmity.
SHO said till late night, police could not finalise its investigation due to unclear situation, adding that the statement of injured armed forces driver is the only way to reach the culprits involved. He said police have registered a case against unknown culprits. In another incident a local block-maker was gunned down at his shop when some unidentified armed men sprayed him with bullets, New Karachi Industrial Area police quoted.
They said that 38-year-old Ashraf was gunned down by three unidentified armed men in limits of Ashraf Colony, Sector G-5, Pakhtonabad near Jawedan Cement Factory. They said that the body of deceased was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a postmortem examination and later handed over to the heirs for burial. They said that police have registered a case No 185/2009 under Pakistan Panel Code (PPC) on request of deceased brother Qasim against unknown culprits.
