Slight fluctuations were seen on the currency market on Tuesday as the rupee moved slowly versus dollar in process of trading, money viewers said. On the interbank market the rupee inched down by one paisa against the dollar for buying at 80.48 while the rupee did not move any side for selling at 80.52, they said.
In the second Asian trading yen climbed to a seven-week peak against euro and a one-month high versus dollar on Tuesday on growing risk aversion after a newspaper reported that two major US banks may need more capital. The Wall Street Journal said regulators have told Citigroup and Bank of America Corp they may need to raise more capital based on early results of the government's "stress tests" of lenders. The government is set to unveil the results on May 4.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee shed five paisa in relation to dollar for buying and selling at 80.75 and 80.90, they said. The rupee, however, climbed in relation to the euro, gaining Rs 1.40 for buying at Rs 104.00 and it also went up by Re.1 for selling at Rs 105.00, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged amid low trading activity in the open currency market on Tuesday. In the absence of visible change in dollar's demand and supply situation, its rate maintained overnight closing level.
The dollar was traded at Rs 80.85 on buying and Rs 81.15 on selling side while some moneychangers reported a decline of five-paisa in selling rate due to lack of buying support. Similarly, the rupee showed stability and remained unchanged against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Monday closing of Rs 117.00 and Rs 118.00, respectively, the moneychangers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained unchanged against dollar at the currency exchange establishments of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Tuesday. The dollar resumed trading at Rs 80.60 (buying) and Rs 80.80 (selling) against same last rate. It did not witness further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 80.60 (buying) and Rs 80.80 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 116.40 (buying) and Rs 117.40 (selling) against last rate of Rs 115 (buying) and Rs 116 (selling). It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 116.40 (buying) and Rs 117.40 (selling).
