Philippines share prices closed 2.06 percent higher on Thursday, lifted by the upturn in overseas markets, dealers said. The composite index gained 42.45 points to 2,103.50 points while the all-shares index gained 1.40 percent to 1,359.78 points. There were 67 gainers against 28 losers and 48 that were unchanged.
Volume turnover amounted to 1.031 billion shares worth 2.45 billion pesos (50.6 million dollars). The local currency traded at 48.418 to the dollar on Thursday morning from 48.670 at the close of trading on Wednesday.
Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co was up 1.16 percent to 2,185 pesos while Energy Development Corp gained 5.88 percent to 3.60 pesos. Ayala Corp rose 2.31 percent to 221 pesos while the Bank of the Philippine Islands was up 3.94 percent to 39.50 pesos.
