Complete strike was observed on the occasion of the third phase of Indian Parliamentary elections in occupied Kashmir, on Thursday. Call for the strike has been given by Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and senior Kashmiri Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Gilani.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the occupations authorities have imposed an undeclared curfew in Srinagar and placed the APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other Hurriyat leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Yasmeen Raja, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza and Farida Behnji under house arrest.
Indian troops, deployed in strength, have sealed all the roads leading to Srinagar and other cities and towns of the occupied territory, restricting public movement to thwart anti-India and anti-election demonstrations.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement in Srinagar termed the authorities' action as frustration of New Delhi. He maintained that the Government of India had unleashed a reign of terror to scare away the people. "The undemocratic activities to crush the peaceful agitation should serve as an eye-opener for the international community," the APHC Chairman said.
Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar hailing the masses for observing strike said, "The observance of strike by the masses makes it clear that people respect the sacrifices of the martyrs. It demonstrates to the international community that people here are against the 62-year-old Indian oppression."
