Wapda is providing comprehensive health care to its employees and their families through a countrywide network of 11 hospitals and 30 dispensaries. The newly approved dispensaries at Kasur, Gujrat, Jhang, Rahim Yar Khan, Dadu, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnaghar will also be commissioned in near future.
The up-gradation of dispensary at Sukkur to the status of 20-bed hospital is also under consideration of Wapda authorities. These views were expressed by Wapda Chairman Shakil Durrani while presiding over a meeting here at Wapda House. A briefing was given to the Chairman in connection with the welfare of the patients, up-gradation of the existing health care facilities and improvement in career structure of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff.
The Chairman announced to upgrade 25 per cent of the posts of staff nurses in BPS-16 to BPS-17, of which further 10 per cent posts will be upgraded to BPS-18. He directed to ensure further promotion avenues for nurses and paramedical staff. A committee has been constituted to work out the modalities in this regard. The quota for promotion of specialist doctors to BPS-20 was principally approved to be enhanced up to 6 per cent of the cadre strength and will be formalised on the recommendations of the committee.
Wapda also decided to increase the budget allocation for purchase of medicines. It was noted with satisfaction that Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has recognised house job in medicines, surgery and ophthalmology at 250-bed Wapda Hospital Complex, Lahore.
