Teaching, non-teaching staff rationalisation: LHC directs Punjab government to file reply within 30 days

The Lahore High Court (LHC) admitted for regular hearing a petition challenging the alleged irrational decision in the name of rationalisation of teaching and non-teaching staff in education institutions that there would be one teacher for every 40 students.
The court directed the Punjab government to file its reply to the petition within thirty days. Petitioner a social worker from Khushab Akbar Ali submitted that the secretary school education on June 23, 2008 announced this policy that in a primary school, for every 40 students there would be a teacher.
Petitioner said it is not clear from the policy that the school having 40 students would be provided one teacher or for one class having 40 students there would be one teacher. He said this policy is against the public interest because one teacher cannot teach 40 students of different 5 classes.
He said in primary school a teacher have to teach five classes and each class contains six different subjects and if a school having the strength of total 40 students then only one teacher have to teach 30 classes of different subjects in a day, which would not be possible humanly. He therefore prayed to declare this policy against the law and the constitution.
