US wheat futures closed higher on Tuesday supported by slow seedings of the US spring wheat crop and short-covering. CBOT May wheat ended up 3 cents per bushel at $5.41-1/2. Kansas wheat scouts seeing good yield prospects. USDA late on Monday said 23 percent of the US spring wheat crop had been planted, up from 15 percent a week ago but well below the 59 percent five-year average.
Rainfall in the northern US Plains continues to slow spring wheat plantings. Generally favourable weather seen in the central US Plains HRW wheat region. Dryness a concern in Argentina's wheat region. Argentine farming chief says wheat area may shrink. Argentina 2009/10 wheat crop 11 million tonnes - attache. Philippines seen buying 1.8 million tonnes feed wheat in 2009. Algeria's wheat imports fall due to good harvest.
