DFP unveils digital film studio

Directorate General of Films and Publications (DFP) has established a digital film studio to promote creativity and ensuring a suitable film making atmosphere. This studio is another important achievement of DFP, which would help meet the modern film making needs, said Director General DFP, Ghulam Hazoor Bajwa in an interview with APP here Thursday.
He said the digital studio equipped with latest facilities was a healthy step to improve the standard of film making as after setting-up of this studio, some documentary films including on Pakistan Solidarity Day and one year performance of present government have been produced.
He said the Directorate has also been tasked to produce a documentary film on Grievances Wing of Prime Minister's Inspection Commission whose shooting work is under process. The Director General said the electronic media in private sector has witnessed expansion and there was a dire need to be equally equipped from the government side and added that in view of the competitive environment, DFP is in a position to make full use of the film studio.
He said that besides a digital filmmaking studio along with the latest facilities, an editor's room with a sophisticated recording room is also prepared. He said a documentary film - Khadame Islam was transferred from 35mm to DVD format and released to different TV channels on death anniversary of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
Bajwa said the previous film making system, known as 35mm, was imported from the then Soviet Union in the early 1950s, which is now considered obsolete and outdated in today's world. So we switched our documentaries from the older system to the latest digital film making, he said.
He said demo CDs and rental list of studio facilities had been sent to private TV channels for information and marketing, adding that meetings with them are also being held for rental modalities of digital studio. Director Films at DFP, Maqsood Ahmad, who was also present, said the machinery for digital film making worth Rs 21 million was available but not installed. As a result of extensive efforts of DFP management, the machinery was installed and made functional, he informed. Incharge Studio at DFP, Naeem Mazhar said the Directorate has prepared documentaries on Quaid-e-Azam, Allama Iqbal, Fatima Jinnah and other prominent figures of Pakistan.
