World Mother's Day would be celebrated across the world including Pakistan tomorrow (Sunday) with great opportunity to rejoice our blessings and honour the special person in our lives. Mother's Day celebrates motherhood generally and the positive contributions of mothers to the society. It falls on the second Sunday of May every year.
Julia Ward Howe would be the first to propose a Mother's Day. In 1870 she introduced her Mother's Day proclamation, which was based on her experiences as a wife and mother throughout her suppressive marriage and the atrocities she witnessed while living through the civil war. It was her belief that women should have more social responsibility beyond tending to her husband, and she used her gift of pose to spread the message.
However, it is the result of a campaign by Anna Marie Jarvis (1864-1948) who following the death of her mother on May 9 1905, devoted her life to establishing Mother's Day as a national, and later as an international event.
This Mother's Day date was declared by US President Woodrow Wilson on May 8, 1914. The US tradition of celebrating Mother's Day and paying tribute to mothers soon started spreading across several countries over the years and these countries also adopted second Sunday of May as Mother's Day. Mother's Day is celebrated to honour all mothers and express thankfulness for the hardships they bear in bringing us up. Different countries celebrate Mother's Day on different dates.
Although the day and the date of Mothers Day celebration differ across the world, the spirit and enthusiasm is the same. All over the world, people love to celebrate Mother's Day with their mothers and shower love on them. The language of the heart is same everywhere. Every heart prays for the well being of a Mother. Everyone shares a hug, send gifts and pays tribute to their loving mothers.
