The Asian Development Bank (ADB) would provide Rs 56.59 billion ($773 million) for different development projects. The funds would be utilised for AJK development projects including hydel power generation, highways, communication and other sectors. This was disclosed by Finance Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, while chairing a high level meeting held here.
The meeting was attended by Country Director of Asian Development Bank, Reom Stroem, Additional Chief Secretary for Development Muhammad Yousuf and secretaries of different departments. He told the meeting that the government is making all-out efforts to improve the living standard of the people of the liberated territory and in this regard, allocated funds would be spent on the development projects including hydel power, and minerals, besides skilled manpower.
He told the meeting about the launching of different uplift schemes under "Piyara Kashmir Programme". He said that Rs 11 billion would be spent on hydel power projects, Rs 33.42 billion for highways and Rs 12.016 billion for the communication sector respectively.
