Sindh Food Minister Mir Nadir Magsi has said that wheat arriving from the Punjab will not be allowed to enter the Sindh province. However, movement of Punjab wheat for Balochistan through Sindh will be allowed only after its registration at the check-posts of Food Department.
Talking to journalists here Saturday, the Food Minister said the decision has been taken because Sindh farmers will suffer a loss if Punjab wheat comes to Sindh. He pointed out that abundant stock of last year's wheat is lying with the Punjab traders, which is being sent for sale to Sindh's procurement centres.
He said that wheat procurement price last year had been lower and since the price has gone up to Rs 950 per maund, the Punjab traders are trying to sell their wheat here. He said although Sindh will meet the procurement target, but then what would be the condition of farmers of Sindh.
Mir Nadir Magsi said that when our target will be achieved, the ban will be lifted. He said the Federal Government has been recommended to announce subsidy on issue price so that "atta" (flour) price comes down, or otherwise its price will go up.
