Federal Minister for Communications Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan said on Saturday that the government would not allow anyone to carry out act of violence or terrorism in the name of religion. Talking to the journalists after inaugurating the National Highway Authority (NHA) development projects worth Rs 2 billion at Gakhar near Gujranwala on National Highway (N-5).
The minister said the entire nation will have to get united to counter the menace of terrorism because it is war of our survival. "No religion allows terrorism and these terrorists, who have no link with Islam, are committing the acts of terror. The government will establish its writ by eliminating these terrorist at all costs", he said. "More than 10 lacs people have left their homes from Swat and the nation would help them in their difficult time," he added.
Earlier, the Minister conducted the ground breaking of an underpass and overhead bridge at G.T. Road. Dr Arbab Alamgir said that the GT Road was being connected with the Motorways from Wazir Abad to Khanqah Dogran Interchange. He said that around Rs 6 billion were being spent on the Gujranwala-Lahore project.
The Minister instructed the contractors of the Lahore-Gujranwala Section of the project to complete it in a five-month period. He said that no laxity or corruption will be tolerated in the projects and strict action will be taken if the construction material is found substandard.
Accepting the long-standing appeal of the people of the area, the federal minister issued instructions to abolish NHA tax on bus bay at Gakhar. The minister while talking to the media said that President Asif Zardari's US visit will be a landmark achievement. "We have to put the country on the road to progress and development and the people will soon hear good news and peace will be restored.-PR
