Indonesian share prices ended 0.62 percent higher on Tuesday on late buying by local institutional funds in mining and telecom blue chips, dealers said. The Jakarta Composite Index gained 11.28 points to close at 1,842.02. "Massive buying by local funds on hopes for an improved economy in 2009 lifted the main index from its low," a trader told Dow Jones Newswires.
Coal miner Bumi Resources jumped 8.8 percent to 2,175 rupiah, while nickel miner Antam gained 7.3 percent to 2,050 rupiah. Telkom gained 1.4 percent to 7,500 rupiah. The rupiah closed at 10,340 to the dollar compared to 10,365 at the last close.
