Prime Minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday assured the House that Pakistan army would win the ongoing military operation in Swat and other parts of Malakand division, launched to root out the militants and extremists, who challenged the writ of the government in the name of Islam and Sharia.
Addressing the National Assembly (NA), he said that the military is making unmatched efforts in difficult terrain of Swat and adjacent areas to wipe out terrorists from the area who have challenged the writ of the government.
He assured the nation that the army, with the support of the government and the people, would win the war against these terrorists to give peace to the nation. Praising valiant role of the army soldiers, he said that they have jumped on the sharp edges of mountains in Puchar area, the stronghold of the militants' supreme leader Maulvi Fazalullah, to take control of the terrorists strong base and they have been successfully carrying out the operation.
Gilani said that the government is taking concrete measures to facilitate the displaced persons who have rendered sacrifices for the sake of Pakistan's future. Furthermore, the prime minister said that whole nation stands firmly by the armed forces to eliminate terrorists and is taking comprehensive measures to help the internally displaced persons.
Besides, adopting military strategy to curb the militants and terrorists, the government is also working on a political strategy to resolve the issues through political ways, he maintained. Wapda has provided electricity to all twelve IDPs' camps as the Ministry of Water and Power has been directed to arrange 10,00 fan immediately for them, Gilani said.
He said it is war-like situation but there is no reason to worry as the government is fully alert and capable of dealing with the situation tactfully, moreover, he assured the House that situation in the camps would be streamlined within two to three days.
Gilani also appealed the nation to demonstrate similar zeal to help out the IDPs as they had shown in 2005 earthquake. The prime minister assured the House that all the available resources would be used transparently and their details would also be placed on the website.
Responding to a point of order raised by PML-Q leader, Amir Moqam, the prime minister said that the government would provide full proof security to the parliamentarians and their families who have threats from the extremists and terrorists and due to which they could not go to their constituencies.
