The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on May 14, for the lowest income group up to Rs 3,000, has registered increase of 0.27 percent over the previous week. The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 222.74 as against 222.13 registered in the previous week, according provisional figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. SPI for the combined group registered increase of 0.22 percent by growing up from 211.76 in the previous week to 212.23 in the week under review. As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 11.20 percent.
As compared to last week, the SPI for the group falling in the income brackets of 3001-5000, 5001-12000 and above 12000 increased by 0.24 percent, 0.22 percent and 0.19 percent, respectively.
During the week under review average prices of 12 items registered decrease, while that of 19 items increase with the remaining 22 items' prices remained unchanged. The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included, tomatoes, egg hen (farm), onions, gram pulse (washed), wheat (average quality), rice (irri-6), LPG (11 kg cylender), red chillies, garlic, rice basmati (broken), masoor pulse (washed) and kerosene
The items which registered increase in their prices included, bananas, gur, potatoes, moong pulse (washed), curd, chicken (farm), salt (powdered), milk (fresh), vegetable ghee (loose), mash pulse (washed), electricity bulb (60wats), mutton, firewood, beef, mustard oil, tea (prepared), wheat flour (average quality), sugar and lawn.
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included bread plain (mid size), milk (powdered), vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), tea (packet), cooked beef, cooked dal, cigarettes, coarse latha, voil (printed), shirting, sandal (gents), sandal (ladies), chappal, match box, washing soap, bath soap, gas charges (up to 3.3719 (MMBTU), electricity charges (1-100 unit), petrol, diesel and telephone local call.
