The ACE sleuths are conducting investigations into the alleged activities of loot and plunder of government wheat by Abdul Sattar Jatoi, Assistant Food Controller (BS-10), working on deputation basis in Food Department.
According to ACE, the matter was reported by Secretary Food department, who stated that Jatoi, originally an employee of education and literacy department and working in food department as Assistant Food Controller (BS-10), on deputation had misappropriated wheat worth millions of rupees.
According to preliminary inquiries, Jatoi was responsible for shortage of wheat stocks of 2090 wheat bags at PR Centre Kot Diji, out of which he credited the cost of 2000 bags only.
He, being In charge Kotdiji Godowns, District Khairpur was also alleged to have misappropriated 123.290 tons of wheat worth Rs13,26,492. He deposited 25percent of the amount of loss at Rs 402,315 on 05.04.2007, while balance Rs 924,177 was to be recovered in three equal instalments of Rs308,059 each.
Jatoi committed misappropriation of 162.795 MT, 1627.95 bags of Crop 2006-07 at the rate of Rs1215 plus 200 penalty per bag Rs2,304,493.50. He was asked to pay excess weight of 146.10 bags of Crop 2006-07 at the rate of Rs1215 plus Rs200 penalty per bag totalling the amount at Rs 206,816.24.
Jatoi was asked to pay the cost of 17,200 misappropriated wheat bags worth Rs 2,0907,975.60 at the rate of Rs1215 per bag through challans, which was deposited by him, while Rs200 penalty per bag (Rs34,40,000) is yet to be recovered from him. Thus, the official was responsible for causing loss of Rs 34,40,000.
