The commodity wholesale markets appeared lousy owing to warm weather and a closed holiday during the week ended on May 16, 2009, as the world grain markets depicted nearly mixed. The prices of wheat rose while rapeseeds showed downward trend while chemicals as usual depicted mixed.
On Monday Jodia Bazar reported chemicals playing mixed patters as chemicals (per Lb) Caustic Soda flakes Saudia closed lower by Re 1 to Rs 46, Oxalic acid China scaled down by Rs 2 to Rs 60, Citric acid from China retreated by Re 1 to Rs 73 while caustic soda flakes from Germany rose by Rs 3 to Rs 105.
Petroleum Jelly PVA from Japan was quoted at Rs 228, Sitara caustic soda flakes ended lower by Re 1 to Rs 45 and caustic Taiwan went down by Rs 2 to Rs 46. Hydro-Sulphate China 88 percent closed lower by Re 1 to Rs 70, same item from Germany lost Rs 2 to Rs 185, and same item from India lost sharply by Rs 4.50 to Rs 74. Acetic acid Taiwan scaled higher by 50 paisa to Rs 79, while Korean rose by Rs 3 to Rs 78. Hydrogen Peroxide 35 percent Korean ended higher by 50 paisa to Rs 31.
The grain market on the day was low paced business as wheat old and new with bardana turned higher by Rs 25 to Rs 2,525 while the other type was quoted at Rs 2,540, sugar better type was quoted At Rs 20 down to Rs 4,300 while the other type was unchanged at Rs 4,210, rapeseed Mirpur conceded at Rs 25 to Rs 1,450, while the other type was quoted at Rs 1,475 and rapeseed cakes showed going down quoted at Rs 3,350 while other quality was quoted at Rs 3,700.
On Tuesday variations were not reported by traders as buyers were said to have stayed back at home owing to market remaining closed on account of holiday declared by Sindh government.
On Wednesday declining trend was pronounced on the wholesale commodity markets particularly gram side such as gram Australia scaled down by Rs 50 to Rs 3,700 while the better type was quoted at Rs 3,900, gram dal Australia conceded Rs 100 to Rs 4,300, yellow peas Canada lost Rs 25 to Rs 2,625 while the other type was quoted at Rs 2,775, yellow peas dal Canada conceded Rs 25 to Rs 2,925 while other type was quoted at Rs 3,075, wheat old and new with bardana lower by Rs 25 to Rs 2,500 while the other type was quoted at Rs 2,515, sugar low type gained Rs 10 to Rs 4,200, gur was sharply lower by Rs 100 to Rs 5,200 while the better type was quoted at Rs 5,600, cottonseed cakes with bag gained Rs 75 to Rs 1000, while the other type was put at Rs 900, cottoncakes Sindh with bag low type lost Rs 10 to Rs 1,190, better type rose Rs 20 to Rs 1,225, Irri-6 low type was again higher by Rs 50 to Rs 2,450 while better type was put at Rs 2,600.
On Jodia Bazar Kirana items (per 40 Kg) Nutmeg ended higher by Rs 200 to Rs 15,400, big cardamom conceded Rs 100 to Rs 12,500, cloves scaled higher by Rs 1,500 to Rs 16,500, Isbaghol Bhoosi shed Rs 25 to Rs 1,725, star aniseed scaled higher by Rs 200 to Rs 6,200, cumumseed went down by Rs 250 to Rs 7,900 and tamarind shed Rs 40 to Rs 960.
On Thursday, after two days of near closure trading activity was somewhat normal on the commodities wholesale markets, makai on the cereal side ended lower after staying steady for weeks as it lost Rs 250 to Rs 1,450, the better type was also lower by Rs 225 to Rs 1,500, urad from Burma rose by Rs 150 to Rs 2,150, better type rose by Rs 100 to Rs 2,400, til low type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 3,600, while better type was unmoved at Rs 3,700, cottoncakes with bag Punjab rose by Rs 100 to Rs 1000 and the better showed at Rs 1,100, and same item from Sindh low type was higher by Rs 90 to Rs 1,280 while better type rose by Rs 75 to Rs 1,300.
On Jodia Bazar the trading rates in plastic mouldings (per Lb) were: HDPE (film) Saudia 952 was quoted at Rs 52.50, Mobil roe by 50 paisa to Rs 53, and TR 144 rose by 50 paisa to Rs 52.75. HDPE blow Kuwait rose by Re 1 to Rs 52, LDPE 374 ended down by Re 1 to Rs 53, Polypropylene tape grade India went down by 75 Paisa to Rs 47.75, Kuwait closed lower by 75 paisa to Rs 47.75 and Saudia closed lower by Rs 1.75 to Rs 47.25, polypropylene injection grade Saudia closed higher by 50 paisa to Rs 50 India closed higher 50 paisa to Rs 50 and Kuwait rose by 75 paisa to Rs 50, ABS (per bag) pololac 707 ended lower by 75 paisa to Rs 50, ABS (per bag) polylac 707 ended down by 75 paisa to Rs 3,550.
On Friday, as usual, no business took place because of market players being engaged in Juma affairs.
On Saturday thin business was seen on the wholesale grain and seed market as the main buyers kept on the sidelines due to lack of buying interest. On the cereal side wheat old and new Bardana (with bag) shed Rs 15 to Rs 2,485 and 2,500. Grams showed no change in process of trading.
On Jodia Bazar Kenyan tea closed higher. The changes were: KENYAN TEA (Per kg): PF-1 A Grade edged up by Rs 7 to Rs 282 and B Grade went higher by Rs 5 to Rs 265.
BP-1: A-1 Grade moved upward by Rs 25 to Rs 310 and B Grade went higher by Rs 10 to Rs 280.
