The Provincial Secretary Irrigation Shuja Ahmed Junejo has said that there would be shortage of irrigation water during this year and added that his department was trying its best to meet the requirements of the growers through efficient utilisation of available water and preventing water thefts with the help of Sindh Police and Rangers.
He was talking to the Journalists at certificate distribution ceremony among 43 candidates on completion of their course in Irrigation Department under the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Youth Development Programme at Irrigation Research Field Station Hyderabad on Monday. Responding a question, the Provincial Secretary Irrigation said that his department was very much vigilant to meet any eventuality of flood during next monsoon season and added that close monitoring of 1500 canals/distributaries in the province was a regular feature.
To another question, he said that his department would take up the matter of water shortage to the Irsa authority in next meeting. He said that efforts were being made to plug the water theft and the services of Sindh Police and Rangers have been acquired.
Earlier, addressing the certificate distribution ceremony, Shuja Ahmed Junejo said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Youth Development Programme has created beacon of hope among depressed youths. He said that after the capacity building and skill development of the youths under this programme, the trained youths would be able to work anywhere in the country. He said that as many as one thousand youths were being provided training in his department and it was expected that they would contribute their services for the development of the country.
The Chairman Standing Committee Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Youth Development Programme Air Martial Riazuddin Shaikh (Rtd) said that under this programme special training would be provided to one lac youths in Sindh province. He said that the trainee of this programme would be absorbed in different government and private organisations and added that slowly and gradually the ratio of unemployment would be decreased. He stressed upon the trainee to be sincere with their careers and work hard for the prosperity of the nation.
