Partly Facetious: but Farhatullah Babar is doing his job

"The President's media guy, Farhatullah Babar, is extremely busy these days."
Published May 20, 2009

"The President's media guy, Farhatullah Babar, is extremely busy these days."
"Selling the government's foreign policy?"
"Who is he selling it to?"
"You can't resist conspiracy theories can you? All I meant to say was that as the President went on a rather long visit abroad and as there was domestic criticism against this long trip..."
"There was also criticism in the Western media about his trip."
"OK, but it is Farhatullah Babar's job to convince the rest of us that the President's visit was a success and he has been busy commissioning articles in favour of his boss as well as trying to make daily statements about how successful it was."
"But why doesn't he base his evaluation on some facts? If he doesn't, you know and I know that he would damage to the President's image."
"He is basing it on facts as far as he knows."
"Well, the 1.9 billion dollars that the government is tirelessly referring to, as a direct outcome of the President's visit to the US is simply not true. Half of that money is going to go into providing greater security to the American embassy and its consulates stationed in this country. How is that the President's achievement?"
"Unless, of course, you argue that security has worsened and..."
"Don't be facetious."
"But any way one good thing came out of the criticism. The President is not going to Iran now?"
"I don't think that was a relevant trip in any case. For Pete's sake he met with Karzai in the US, Gilani met with Karzai in Islamabad and I don't see why the President needed to meet Karzai in Teheran. It's not as if the two countries have to work with us to give us energy...Afghanistan and Iran provide us with alternate energy supplies if you know what I mean."
"Yes I do, so now what?"
"But about the APC..."
"Great that!"
"I agree, but as the President never attended the APC why did Gilani have to wait till he returned?"
"I don't know, ask Gilani."
