Malaysian shares closed up 1.87 percent on Wednesday on greater interest in blue chips and index heavyweights, dealers said. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) gained 19.18 points to 1,042.67, with gainers outpacing losers 358 to 307. Dealers expect the key index to trade between 1,037 and 1,050 points Thursday.
Among gainers, Maybank was up 5.00 percent to 5.30 ringgit while IOI Corp added 3.60 percent to 4.64. On the downside, Tanjong lost 1.40 percent to 14.10 ringgit and Bumiputra-Commerce fell 0.60 percent to 8.85.
