Central Information Secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Fauzia Wahab, on Saturday said that she received a letter from Taliban, which warned the government that the government would have to face dire consequences if it did not stop the military operation in Swat.
She was addressing a press conference at the party central secretariat here. Fauzia said that the threatening letter was written in Pushto and delivered through Pakistan post a week ago, in which derogatory language was used against the President and the Prime Minister, which she requested the media not to publish.
Reiterating her party's resolve to root out the menace of extremism and terrorism from the society, she said that such tactics of the extremists would not weaken our resolve and PPP led government will not bow down before terrorists and their evil designs to destroy the country.
The PPP leader said that strategy against militants is being highly appreciated by the national political leadership and the world community. Fauzia mentioned that the Prime Minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, has recently taken all the political leadership into confidence at the All Parties Conference (APC) held in Islamabad.
Commenting on President Asif Ali Zardari's recent visit to the US, she said the President apprised US leadership about Pakistan's strategy to curb terrorism and extremism, which was highly appreciated. She said the US approved $1.5 billion financial assistance to Pakistan besides ensuring to continue co-operation in war against terrorism, adding, 'change in US tone is reflective of President Asif Ali Zardari's successful diplomacy.'
The Information Secretary said that President Zardari during his visit to France also successfully convinced his French counterpart for supplying civil nuclear technology to Pakistan. Britain has also announced financial aid for rehabilitation of IDPs, she said.
