Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Quaid Mohammad Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that the US drone attacks were spreading hatred apart from proving counter productive in war against terror. He said this while taking to a five-member delegation of US Senators, which called on him at his Raiwind residence.
During the meeting, Nawaz discussed with them matter regarding war on terror and displacement of a large number of people after the Swat operation. The delegation, comprising Thomas R. Carper, Mark Udall, Jeanne Shaheen, Kay Hagan and Mark Begich, exchanged views with the PML-N leader on matters of mutual interest and Pakistan's role in war against terrorism.
Talking to the US Senators, Nawaz expressed his concerns over the US drone attacks in Pakistan and the displacement of over two million people from Swat and other areas. He also apprised them about the plight of IDPs and the relief measures being taken by the government of Punjab and the PML (N). Punjab Chief Minister Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif and Principal Officer of US Consulate in Lahore Brian Hunt were also present.
The sources said that Nawaz told the US delegation that drone attacks were spreading hatred apart from proving counter productive. He said these attacks were violative of the country's integrity and solidarity.
