The higher water level in reservoirs, more discharge of water from the dams and efficient working of IPPs and Thermal Power Plants has boosted the production capacity of generating machines. According to a Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) statement, weather conditions lent further support to squeeze the quantum of load management.
The duration of load management was substantially curtailed during daytime, it said. The situation was further relaxed when the load management between the night of 24-05-2009 and 25-05-2009 was totally lifted throughout the country and it reflected the improved power scenario, the statement said.
The load management schedules were revised to facilitate the consumers. The Control Centres of all the Discos were directed to implement the latest instructions. The local system constraints of Discos also had a relief because of dropping of mercury thus relaxing load management measures.
The statistical data unfolded below substantiates the above contention. The maximum demand for 23-05-2009 has been 14980 MW and the shortfall recorded was 2100 MW, similarly the optimum demand for 24-05-2009 was established as 14851 MW and the deficit was 1800 MW, whereas, the shortfall last year for the same period was recorded as 3541 MW and 4068 MW respectively.
If the weather conditions persist as were for the preceding two days, the power situation will remain consistent in the succeeding days rather it may improve, it added. Supply to KESC on May 23, 24 last year was 440 and 560 MW respectively, whereas, 700 and 660 MW of power supply has been fed to KESC this year for the same period.
