Chairman Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) Altaf Muhammad Saleem said here on Thursday that gender policy for earthquake affected areas would be finalised soon. He was addressing a meeting organised by ERRA in collaboration with Gender Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Networking Event (GRRNE).
Highlighting the important role of women in society, the chairman termed them as backbone for development of the country and said "no society could attain progress and prosperity without women education and empowerment." Saleem said that healthy and educated women constitute a strong and vibrant society and ensure a educated nation.
He informed that last year ERRA had launched a project to prepare the gender policy for the earthquake affectees in collaboration with UNDIFEM. Various programmes were arranged in eight quake-affected districts for taking input from women folk about their problems to be incorporated in the policy. Saleem Altaf said that information was collected from eight districts including AJK and NWFP, and many meetings were held to collect data and identify problems for recommendation of the gender policy.-PR
