Ambassador of Tunisia, Mourad Bourehla has said that Tunisia is interested to further reinforce its bilateral trade and encourage establishment of industrial units through joint ventures with Pakistan. Speaking at a meeting of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), he said that Tunisia is a part of the most advanced Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with European Union (EU) and a pivot part in others FTA with Arab, and Sub-Saharan countries.
He said that these agreements could help Pakistan boost its trade with these countries by exporting goods to Tunisia and re-exporting to these countries after some value addition. He said that a trade delegation of Tunisia would soon visit Pakistan to see the existing opportunities of co-operation with Pakistan. The ambassador said that the present volume of bilateral trade is only 70 million dollars which is far below the potential of the two countries. A target has been fixed to increase volume of trade to 300 million dollars by the year 2010.
He said that Tunisia is interested to cooperate with Pakistan in industrial sector, textile industry, investment, science and technology, telecommunication, health sector, cultural exchanges, education, tourism and agriculture etc.
