The teams of veterinary doctors from the Livestock Department raided 596 butcher shops in the city during the last two days, and caught 122 butchers who were selling substandard meat. The action was taken under the ongoing campaign against the sale of substandard meat in the city. The drive has been launched on the directives of DCO, Saeed Wahlah.
District Officer Livestock Dr Abdul Rehman told the media that the challans against the butchers had been sent to the concerned court. He said the campaign against the sale of substandard meat, water infiltration in carcass, slaughter of immature animals and slaughter of animals outside slaughter house had been launched with a view to ensure supply of good quality meat to the people. He warned butchers to refrain from violation of the Slaughter Control Act, otherwise strict action would be taken against them.
