The WAPDA has increased the compensatory amount for the people affected by Mangla Dam Raising Project by three times to Rs 51 billion. The sources told APP here on Friday that at the beginning of the construction work on the project, over Rs 15 billion were initially earmarked as compensation.
The sources said the construction work for the establishment of New Mirpur city and four other towns one each at Islamgarh, Chakswari, Dadayal and Siakh was in full swing. They further said the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government had received fishery rights under a package.
They said it had also been decided to supply water for drinking and irrigation purposes to the districts of Mirpur and Bhimbher. The sources pointed out that as per the directives of AJK Prime Minister Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, the Mangla Dam Resettlement Organisation was actively engaged in implementing the compensatory package and for rehabilitation of Mangla Dam affectees.
