Sher Muhammad Baloch, Chairman, NA Standing Committee on Youth Affairs has called upon the youths to come forward and play their role in addressing the ongoing spate of extremism and terrorism in the country. He said that some deviant elements in the society were polluting the minds of youth.
He made these remarks while chairing maiden meeting of the Standing Committee on Youth Affairs in Parliament House, on Monday. The Chairman said that enough damage has been caused to our youth by misleading literature and inculcating biased ideas in their minds making them intolerant towards democratic values. He called for a cohesive and well-co-ordinated strategy devised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs taking on board of the provinces.
The committee appreciated the efforts of the Ministry for its youth related work, however, stressed for providing employment opportunities to youth so that they could be self-sustained and lead the state toward progress and prosperity. The committee also appreciated the National Internship Programme (NIP) and National Volunteers Movement (MVM), which has successfully engaged youth in productive activities. It also lauded the rescue and relief operation carried out by NVM in the disaster stricken areas of Balochistan, NWFP, FATA and Kashmir.
Standing Committee also recommended Islamic education as well as military training for youth at primary level and it was also directed to chalk out the comprehensive programme for illiterate/uneducated youths. Ministry was directed to provide a detailed break-up regarding the projects/programme, which comes under the MoYA.
The meeting was attended by Shahid Hussain Bhutto, Minister for Youth Affairs, MNAs Farah Naz Isphani, Rahela Baloch, Nadeem Afzal Chan, Dr Mahreen Razaque Bhutto, Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali, Dr Darshan Sardar Muhammad Irfan Dogar, Dr Nelson Azeem, Imrana Saeed Jamil, Jamila Gilani, Secretary and senior officers of the MoYA.-PR
