Multan has become a city of road barriers in the wake of renewed security threats. The erection of more than a dozen roadblocks in the city is causing inconvenience to people, including patients and school children. The entire city is cordoned off by barriers on all the main roads.
Military police and police officials are also checking every vehicle thoroughly. People commuting in public transport are also being checked. Security personnel ask for computerised identity cards from commuters.
Agha Muhammad Yousaf, SSP (Operation), said here on Tuesday, that the high-ups have put the police on high alert to avoid any untoward incident. "Multan is on the hit list of terrorists after the Lahore and Peshawar incidents. That's why security agencies are busy in thorough checking," he said.
Barricades have been placed on the Muzaffargarh-Shershah Road, the Airport Road, the Mall Road, Khanewal, Vehari road, Bahawalpur road. There are two more barricades on Shershah road, Chowk Kutchery, where the traffic remains blocked for hours.
Police and military personnel are even using dogs in the search operations. Residents of the city were facing hardships in approaching the city markets and their place of duty on time. Motorists had to wait for quite a while to pass through the barriers in the scorching heat.
