USAID has planned to execute various development schemes for five districts of Southern Punjab to bring these areas at par with other developed areas.
A delegation of USAID Programme led by Principal Officer at American Consulate, Brian D Hunt, said that there is a need for paying due attention to the sectors of education, agriculture, dairy farming, livestock, health, vocational education and infrastructure development under this programme as it will help promote economic activities as well as creation of job opportunities in these areas.
He further said that close co-ordination with the provincial government could yield better results with regard to the implementation of development projects under USAID Programme in southern Punjab. The USAID delegation called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and discussed matters regarding development of various sectors in five districts of southern Punjab with the co-operation of USAID.
Talking to the delegation, the chief minister said that the Punjab government was paying special attention to the uplift of backward and far-flung areas and southern Punjab and remote areas would be given priority in the next development programme so that better facilities could be provided to the people of these areas and their standard of living could be raised.
He further said that the Punjab government was implementing a comprehensive programme for the provision of socio-economic justice to the people, solution of their problems and elimination of poverty and ignorance. He said that obsolete system was being reformed and effective measures were being taken for enabling the deprived segments to join national mainstream.
He said that Danish schools were being established in the province and backward areas were being given priority in this regard. He said that modern educational facilities would be available to the students in the Danish schools.
