The Standing Committee on Population Welfare expressed its strong displeasure over the poor performance of Punjab Population Department as it badly failed to achieve the targets set by the Federal Government and directed that the Ministry may take effective measures to control the population growth which is increasing dangerously.
The committee met under the Chairmanship of Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and expressed its concern over the 40 per cent financial cut imposed by Finance Division and untimely release of funds to the Ministry concerned and recommended that M/o Finance may realise its importance and financial cut may not be imposed unnecessarily as the Ministry is unable to pay the salaries to their staff on time which is effecting badly on the population welfare activities.
Hanif Abbasi appreciated Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Minister for Population Welfare for giving comprehensive briefing over the issues pertaining to population welfare and efforts being made by her to bring it back on track.
He desired that if such enthusiasm and devotion would be carried on, the rapid population growth could be controlled in future. He directed the Ministry to launch a strong media campaign to create awareness among the people about the family planning and also motivate the Ulemas to support them for the population welfare activities at own level.-PR
