Former Pakistan captain Turab Ali died here Friday after a prolonged illness, a former colleague said. The 75-year-old Ali had been paralysed since 1999 and was in a poor financial state, international referee Ahmed Jan told AFP. "Ali was a legend and sadly we could not take care of this great player as he died in an impoverished state," he said.
Ali captained Pakistan in the Asia Cup held in Myanmar in 1967, and also played club football in India and Bangladesh. He earned a reputation as one of the country's top defenders, dubbed the "Wall of China."
