The Sindh Minister for Labour, Ameer Nawab has said that present government has launched a mega housing project at the cost of Rs32 billion to provide residential facilities to the workers. He said that under this project the construction work of 7,000 houses was in progress, while construction of 16,000 houses will be stated in near future.
He was delivering financial assistance of Rs 50 thousand each to 1,289 workers from Workers Welfare Board on account of dowry to their daughters in a ceremony organised at a local hotel on Sunday.
Addressing the ceremony, the Provincial Minister said that resent government under its 'labour friendly' policies has decided to increase the dowry grant from existing limit of Rs50, 00 to 70,000 and to provide this assistance to all the daughters of the workers instead of only two daughters. He said present government has also fixed minimum salary of Rs6, 000 and Rs2, 000 for pension and activated the workers unions by lifting ban imposed by the previous regime.
Nawab said that the role of trade unions in enhancement in gross production of country could not be avoided and stressed upon the workers to elect their honest and hard working representatives so that their institutions are further strengthened.
About funding of Workers Welfare Board, the Sindh Minister for Labour said that the Sindh province is receiving its share of 42percent from the Federal Government in compression of 43percent of Punjab, 7percent of Frontier and 8percent of Balochistan province.
He said that present government is utilising these funds for providing health, education and financial assistance to the workers in other socio-economic fields.
Further, the Sindh Minister said that previous regime had damaged many institutions due to their wrong policies. He said that present government not only is bringing reforms in previous policies but also formulating labour friendly policies to raise their living standard. He also appealed to the civil society and media to co-operate with the government in its efforts to eradicate the menace of child labour from the society.
The Provincial Secretary Labour, Elimuddin Bullo, DG, Sindh Workers Welfare Board, Jinsar Ali Shah, Deputy Secretary Labour, Sher Zaman Shah, Chairman Labour Federation, Rana Mohammad Ali and others were present in the occasion.
