The NWFP Minister for Livestock and Diary Development, Hidayatullah Khan has said that present government is taking solid steps for the development and promotion of Livestock and Diary and other agriculture related products, besides establishing the new institutions existing ones were also being strengthening.
He said this while addressing ground-breaking ceremony of poultry Research Institute Hazara at Jaba Sheep Farm some twenty five kilometers from District Mansehra, said a press release issued here on Sunday. The project will cost Rs 15.5 billion and would be completed within short span of time. Director Livestock and Diary Development Dr Fida also spoke on the occasion.
The Minister also took a round of Jaba Sheep farm and inspected goats brought by the department from abroad especially from USA. Principal Research officer, Muhammad Iqbal briefed the Minister about the research work on the cross breeding system of goats and other animals.
The Minister also inspected local wool factory and declared wool products as qualitative and durable. He said we have to utilise all our energies to exploit our indigenous resources so as to get the self reliance.
He desired that locally and indigenously made products should be introduced at national and international levels. While speaking at the ceremony the Minister said that the poultry products and livestock has made a lot of progress and development during the last four decades, he said due to our development poultry has become industry and so far Rs One hundred billion have been invested in this industry.
He said poultry industry has become second largest industry after the textile in Pakistan and 50 percent demand of meat is being met from poultry sector and in NWFP poultry has become commercialised since last two to three decades.
