The construction activity of Zero Point Interchange project is slowed down after the authorities put the Capital's security on high alert, casting doubts about contractor's target of partial opening of the project in July.
According to a CDA official, after putting the security on high alert, the entry of dumpers, carrying construction material and heavy machinery in the federal capital has been disallowed.
"The heavy vehicles are not being allowed inside the federal capital or move around despite having security passes issued to them after Marriott blast on September 20, 2008 when a explosive-laden hydraulic dumper hit the hotel's gate, claiming dozens of lives," said the official. He said the contractor was working ahead of schedule but such delays would cast negative affect on the work pace, adding that the steps to resolve the matter are essential as unnecessary delay is neither in the interest of the CDA nor the contractor.
Commenting on the progress of the project, the official said two slip roads are nearing completion those would link Islamabad Highway with Peshawar Mor and vise versa.
"We had planed to open the two slip roads by July end but the restriction on vehicles' movement may make the target achievement a cumbersome task," said the official. He said the other impediment is power transmission lines near H-8 graveyard despite the fact that the CDA has paid Rs 40 million out of total Rs 90 million demanded by the concerned department.
