Shahbaz's letter to Abdul Ghafoor: 'Public representatives should be more responsible'
'Public representatives and incumbents of public offices need to be more responsible and careful than any ordinary citizen.' Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday.
According to an information received Sunday, Shahbaz in a letter written to the Provincial Minister for Prisons, Abdul Ghafoor said that being a public representative was a unique honour that Allah Almighty bestowed upon only few people.
However, this honour also entailed a huge responsibility and obligation, he said adding that the prime duty of a public representative is to show highest level of propriety in social conduct and be a role model for the general public.
Referring to the untoward incident that took place at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore on May 19 2009, the Chief Minister said that the government is committed to uphold the law and has appointed an independent tribunal to probe into the matter. Punjab CM said that contrary to the allegations, the tribunal, in its findings did not find the reported facts completely true and suggested that media blew the incident out of proportions.
Further, he regretted that the conduct of a Provincial Minister is publicly suspected and categorised as inappropriate. He noted with serious concern that such questionable conduct should not have been exhibited in the first place.
'It is needless to emphasise that the public representatives and incumbents of public offices need to be more cautious and careful than any ordinary citizen.' Shahbaz hoped that in future, besides making meaningful contribution to the affairs of the Government, the Minister would do his best to uphold the principles of rule of law, exemplary public behaviour and proper social conduct.
