The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) on Tuesday launched its public "Speak-Up" campaign facilitating the consumers who now can contact the central offices of the utility directly in order to expedite the redress of general complaints and to eradicate illegal use of electricity.
According to a press released issued by KESC on Tuesday, Jan Abbas Zaidi, Chief Operating Officer-Distribution, said: "three new channels of direct contact had been established for the general public to send complaints, inform of faults and convey grievances against non-co-operating KESC officials as well as their involvement in the cases of illegal use of power. These were through emails, SMS and fax, which would land directly in the central offices of the utility and fast action would be taken."
"First they should ask the name and employee number of anyone coming to them on behalf of the utility, and the moment such persons talk in an illegal manner, it should be reported to the central office. Apart from 118, people could now call at telephone No 4540919, or SMS to 0312-5372118, or fax at the numbers: 4540923/4540915, or send an email to: [email protected] or [email protected].
Zaidi, while explaining the distribution position on Tuesday, regretted that there had been extended duration suspension gaps in electricity supply at certain areas, including Quaidabad where the electricity supply had been stopped for over five hours, at Sarjani Town and 7-D areas where there had been a power failure for around 13 hours and in Metroville it was over 12 hours. KESC was actively engaging teams to resolve this situation, he added.
Dale Sinkler, Chief of Generation and Transmission, KESC informed the media persons of the demand and supply position. He said while there was a total demand of 2262 MW in the city at that time, the utility was supplying 2253 megawatts, thus facing a shortfall of 9 MW only. "All power stations are online," he added.-PR
