Defence Society Residents Association (DSRA) has always shown patience to all its members despite the fact that this afterthought on the part of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) has resulted in defective roads, which is damaging their vehicles, and has caused inconvenience to the residents.
According to a press release issued by DSRA on Monday in a recently held Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting of DSRA, chaired by its President, Captain (Retd) Haleem Siddiqui, CEC unanimously decided to initiate a lawsuit against imposition of this illegal and arbitrary refurbishment charges on the residents of DHA.
DSRA CEC has also decided to request DHA residents to henceforth refuse to pay these charges, and all the concerned residents are requested to contact the DSRA office for further information. Our members have demanded that their rights be protected against illegal extortion of money, and DSRA is bound by its constitution to protect its rights.
The release further said instead of compensating the residents, whose properties were destroyed, and their lives and businesses disrupted during and after the 2007 flooding, as demanded by DSRA, ironically DHA has decided to make the residents foot the bill for its negligence and its professional incompetence as a developer.
Initially it was said that the rain water drainage system would cost Rs 750 million only but now much to our surprise, we have leant that DHA has made an expenditure of Rs 2.5 billion, which is a matter of concern to the residents. The so called refurbishment charges imposed on the residents is calculated to be over Rs 4 billion. No accounting or a detailed financial report, duly audited by a auditing firm, has ever been provided or published to verify the claimed expenses.-PR
