Punjab Assembly on Monday extended it full support to the Army's offensive against the militants in different areas of NWFP, by adopting a unanimously resolution. After delayed start of the first day of the budget session, PPP leader and Senior Minister Raja Riaz, Opposition Leader Chaudhry Zaheeruddin and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah jointly moved the resolution.
The resolution condemned the terrorist attack on both Rescue 15 and Manawan, and in Noshera. The House paid tributes to the policemen who laid their lives in the line of duty. Through the resolution, the House called for exposing the hidden hand behind these bombings in Punjab. The House also termed the killing of Allama Dr Sarfraz Ahmed Naeemi a big loss to the nation. Later, the House offered prayer for the victims of suicide bombings.
On a call attention notice of Dr Samia Amjad, the Law Minster said the office of Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) was targeted by the terrorist on May 27. He added the government had the information regarding a possible attack on the ISI office and thus all security arrangements were made, which was humanly possible. "It is wrong to assert that the policemen present at the spot fled the scene when the terrorist approached the 15 building. In fact, the video footage of CCTV cameras showed that they bravely confronted them and in the process gave their lives. In the absence of the government security arrangement, the causality would had been high; hence the government's timely act had minimised the causality," he added.
According to him, after the May 27 incident the government has further tightened the security: police check-posts have been increased and more CCTV cameras are being installed at various points. The concerned agencies are investigating the terrorist attack on ISI office. In a point of order, Amna Ulfat, a PML-Q legislator, criticised the police for not arresting a bank defaulter who failed to keep up with the car lease instalment.
In reply, the Law Minister said since the banks use criminal people for recovery of bad loans, the police unable to act in such situation when a car owner reports vehicle snatching by the criminals. He said the police have to move within the ambit of law. "We have taken up the matter with the Federal government and requested them to advise the banks to change its modus operandi for recovery from defaulted customers," he added.
