Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) (Northern Zone) presented a cheque of Rs 8.4 millions to Mian Shehbaz Sharif as donation to Chief Minister's Relief Fund for rehabilitation of Internally Displaced People (IDPs).
According to PPA (Northern Zone) spokesman, the delegation of PPA was headed by Haji Muhammad Bashir, patron-in-chief of the Association and accompanied by Khalil Sattar Chairman PPA, Muhammad Khaleeque Arshad Chairman PPA (Northern Zone), Dr Muhammad Aslam and Abdul Basit, former Chairmen and various others.
Abdul Basit former Chairman PPA also presented a memorandum to Mian Shehbaz Sharif, on problems of poultry sector. He requested the Chief Minister to resolve the problems of this sector to control the cost of production of poultry products, so that chicken meat and eggs could be provided to the masses on affordable prices.
The PPA leadership said that Wapda has imposed 10 per cent withholding Tax and 15 per cent GST on the general Electric supply to poultry farms, hatcheries and breeding farms. It has increased overall cost of production of broiler and eggs. They suggested that GST and withholding tax should immediately be exempted on poultry producing units.
Legislation for Distance at least 1 km to 3 km from a poultry farm to another poultry farm should be made. They also demanded to reassess multiple taxes being charged from the poultry sector and exemption should be given to it. Problem of import duty on poultry product should be looked into and resolved.
Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab thanked the PPA delegation for their contribution in relation to rehabilitation of IDPs and assured that their donation would be spent for their well being. Mian Shahbaz Sharif also assured the delegation that he would extend full support to resolve the problems confronted by the poultry sector.
