People belonging to various walks of life called on Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here on Wednesday and presented him Rs 13.75 million for relief and rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Talking on this occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said that help and assistance to displaced persons of Swat was a form of worship and Allah Almighty would reward those who would help mitigate the sufferings of their brethren in distress.
He said that government and people of Punjab were in the forefront of relief activities for the displaced persons and were donating generously to the fund set up for this purpose which was highly commendable. He said that not only free atta was being provided to the displaced persons staying at the relief camps but medical teams were also providing them health services round-the-clock.
He said that thousands of fans had been sent to the displaced persons while supply of relief items was also being maintained on daily basis. He said that transparent utilisation of every penny of relief assistance was being ensured and the government had also launched a website to provide complete information to the people in this regard. He said that the process of relief activities would continue till the complete rehabilitation of affectees.
Those who met the Chief Minister paid rich tributes to him on his efforts for the prosperity and development of the province and said that the spirit of service and dedication of the Chief Minister was unprecedented in the history of the country. They further observed that it was due to the Chief Minister Punjab that people were donating generously for the Swat affectees, as they were sure that their donations would be utilised in a completely transparent manner.
Vice Chancellor Punjab University, Dr Muahid Kamran presented a cheque for Rs one million on behalf of university administration, teachers and students, Chairperson Professional Academy of Commerce Mohtarma Nighat Ahmed presented Rs one million, representative of Poultry Association Muhammad Basit gave Rs 8.4 lakh, Haji Akbar Ali, Hafiz Abid Ali, Haji Muhammad Yaqub and Zulfiqar Baloch Rs 2.5 million, Professor Dr Khalid Masood Gondal gave rupees 100,000 and a cheque of Rs 750,000 was presented on behalf of PCS Officers Welfare Association to the Chief Minister for the relief and rehabilitation of Swat affectees.
