President, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Professor Dr Abdul Wahab has emphasised that the government should allocate at least 5 percent for education in the budget. Speaking at a meeting of Health and Education sub-committee of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), he urged the chamber to assist educational institutions of the city by giving scholarships to poor and deserving students so that they could get a chance to acquire higher education.
Hafeez Siddiqui suggested that a task force or a committee should be formed in respect of education and health. Professor Dr Naseem A.Khan Zuberi briefed the meeting about new developments in solar energy sector. President KCCI, Anjum Nisar said that education and health problems could be resolved within a year if it was made mandatory that all government official's sons and daughters get education and health care in government educational institutes and hospitals.
He expressed concern over indicators showing negative growth in all sectors except agriculture. He said that it was very unfortunate that we had all the resources, but we were failing to boost industrial production, increase power generation, increase exports, develop new products and meet international standards of living.
